About Stirring of the Water

In 1994 the Lord encouraged us to hold a church service in a 1000 seater marquee which was being used to host a trans-Atlantic yacht race in Falmouth. We had no experience of doing this, no musicians, no speaker, no idea of how to promote it, and just six weeks to set it all up.

After discussion with knowledgeable friends the event was named "The Stirring of the Water." This was because the huge tent was next to the water and the event was to be about healing. With a lively Christian band, a charismatic Anglican speaker who believed in divine healing, and a ministry team of 70, the big tent soon filled with thirsty people seeking the Lord. His presence was tangible as He ministered to hurting people in marvellous ways. It was the sort of service we wanted to have every week, exciting and not knowing what would happen next!

The following year, with more time to plan, we held another service but in a smaller marquee. Again we were surprised by God in what He did. This created in us a deeper hunger to experience the presence of the Lord and what His power could bring if we gave Him the freedom to move amongst us, to let His Kingdom come. Who He is and what He does captivated our hearts and we fell in love with our heavenly Father.

Soon a group of us with the same vision and desire formed a charity and continued to meet in the Old Carpenters Shop, a place we had been using for prayer since 1994. Our vision and values are focused on loving the Lord and in return receiving His love then giving it away again and again.

Stirring of the Water Ministries was birthed out of a deep desire to see people experience the love of Father God and receive healing, restoration and refreshing. At Stirring of the Water our desire is to create a place where Holy Spirit is not only welcomed but where we can also find intimacy with our Father, where being born again is a reality, a relationship with our Lord Jesus the Christ who changes lives and heals us of life’s deepest hurts.

The ministry derived its name from the book of John Chapter 5 in the Bible which tells of a pool in Jerusalem, called the pool of Bethesda, the mercy pool by the sheep gate, where the sick, blind, lame and paralysed lay in wait for an angel to stir the water. The first person into the pool after the stirring of the water would be healed. It is here that Jesus healed a man who had been disabled for 38 years as a result of a deep seated sickness and was never able to reach the water first. At Stirring of the Water Ministries people have the freedom to respond to God’s healing presence by surrendering to His touch of mercy, love and grace.

The Old Carpenters Shop, at Islington Wharf, is located amongst yachts and boats at the head of Penryn Creek. It is like a pool of water from which those who hunger and thirst for more of God can come and drink freely. It’s a place where people can receive the love of God and give it away to others. Here there are many opportunities for this through healing services, mission work, discipleship courses, bible school, home groups and prayer groups as well as through people’s everyday lives.
